Birthstone is a gemstone that represent a person's birth period - this can be a calendar month or zodiac sign. Today we have two different lists of birthstones - one is modern and the second one is traditional.

JANUARY – GARNET
Garnet is the January's Birthstone, very diverse gemstone and it comes in different colours – but mostly is connected with red. The name 'Garnet“ originates from Latin word „granatus“ which mean pomegranate.
Throughout the history, Garnet was very popular amongst royalty and warriors. Red-variety garnets are associated with love, passion, strength and protection.
FEBRUARY – AMETHYST
The birthstone of February is Amethyst, amazing crystalline quartz in colours from lilac to deep violet purple. This birthstone was one of the most important gems in the historical jewellery collections of European and Asian royal families and ruling class.
Amethyst is associated with peace, protection, spirituality and clarity.
MARCH – AQUAMARINE
Aquamarine is the birthstone for March. The name of this birthstone comes from the Latin word for seawater. In Western culture, Aquamarine was throughout the history connected with oceans.
Aquamarine is associated with happiness, youth and intellect.
APRIL – DIAMOND
The birthstone of April is Diamond, the most popular stone in the world. The name of this amazing gem comes from the Greek word „adamas“, which means „unbrekable“. This perfect stone is also known as the „King of Gems“.
Diamond is associated with eternal love and strength.
MAY – EMERALD
Emerald is the birthstone of May. This beryl stone is identified with the green colour throughout the history. The name Emerald comes from ancient Greek word „smaragdos“ or green gem.
Emerald is associated with fortune, intelligence, healing and youth.
JUNE – ALEXANDRITE
The birthstone of June is Alexandrite. This amazing stone is well known for changing colours from green to red. Alexandrite was discovered in 19 century Russia and the name comes from future Czar Alexander II.
Alexandrite is associated with harmony, luck, fortune and love.
JULY – RUBY
Ruby, the king of gems, is the birthstone of July. The name of this corundum stone comes from Latin word „ruber“ - meaning red. Love for rubies is well known throughout the history – from ancient India to European royalty.
Ruby is associated with love, passion and strength.
AUGUST – PERIDOT
The birthstone of August is Peridot. The name peridot comes from Arabic word „faridat“, meaning gem. Throughout the history this green stone has often be confused mostly with emerald. Its always green but in many different variations.
Peridot is associated with protection, growth and renewal.
SEPTEMBER – SAPPHIRE
Sapphire is the birthstone of September. The name of this corundum stone comes from Greek word „sappheiros. Throughout the history Sapphires have been associated with royalty.
Sapphire is associated with nobility, protection, health and healing
OCTOBER – TOURMALINE
The birthstone of October is Tourmaline. The name of this popular stone comes from Sinhalese word „toramalli“ which means „stone with mixed colours“. There is many colours of tourmaline stones available, but the pink one is the most popular.
Tourmaline is associated with healing, balance, protection and creativity.
NOVEMBER – TOPAZ
Topaz is the birthstone of November. The name probably derived from the Zabargad island in the Red Sea – former name of this island was Topazos. Topaz is available in many colours but the golden yellow is on top of the list.
Topaz is associated with strength, affection and love.
DECEMBER – BLUE ZIRCON
The birthstone of December is Blue Zircon. We still don't know the exactly origin of „zircon“ name but some believe it comes from Persian word „zargun“ meaning "gold-hued". There is many colours of Zircon stones but the blue is the most popular.
Blue zircon is associated with purity, clarity and serenity.
