DECEMBER BIRTHSTONE - BLUE ZIRCON

We still don't know the exactly origin of „zircon“ name but some believe it comes from Persian word „zargun“ meaning "gold-hued". In general Zircon is very underrated stone because its mostly confused with artificial or synthetic "cubic zirconia", which hold similar name. In jewellery zircon is also used as a diamond simulant but in reality is amazing natural gemstone. There is many colours of Zircon stones but the blue is the most popular.

Where is Zircon found?

The most famous area for zircon mining is Sri Lanka, specially in the area of Elahera (located in central region of this gem island). Other top locations of zircon mining are Australia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia.
