What is Sterling Silver?
Hello everyone!
Hope you're doing well. In our special series of blogs about jewellery materials and components which we use in production of our jewellery, we share with our Community more details about everything what we use to create spectacular jewellery.
In this new, second blog we will go more into details about STERLING SILVER, with gold the most important metal material which we use in our jewellery. Enjoy the content :)
STERLING SILVER
Sterling silver is an alloy composed by 92.5% of silver and 7.5% of other metals (usually copper). The most important fact is that sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.
99.9% pure silver or "fine" silver is soft, so silver is alloyed with other metals (like copper) to increase strength and hardness. Sterling silver is prone to tarnishing and different elements are used in alloys to reduce tarnishing and porosity.

What's the difference between silver jewellery?
Today silver is with the gold the most important metal for jewellery production. Most of the silver jewellery are made from three types of silver finishing - pure silver, sterling silver and silver plated.
Pure silver is very rare in modern jewellery technique because it is just too soft and expensive. On the other side the cheapest one is silver plated jewellery, which is low quality material (like nickel) and get tarnished very quick (in most case become green).
The best quality silver jewellery is made with sterling silver. Its more expensive then silver plated jewellery, because do not have cheap base metal. Also sterling silver jewellery is more hypoallergenic and last longer with the properly care.

Conclusion
Sterling silver jewellery is the perfect combination between quality and affordability. All such jewellery have better quality with quality base and finishing.
